David Spicer’s approach to teaching comes from his proven practicality, having over 15 years’ experience in permaculture design and education. His courses are 70% practical and 30% theory.
David has worked and taught with Bill Mollison at the Permaculture Institute Tasmania, and Geoff Lawton at the Permaculture Research Institute’s Australia Zaytuna farm.
Want to find out how to plan and build basic structures for your garden and farm without having to outsource the problem? Wood stores, animal shelters, sheds and outhouses. There is a lot you can do yourself.
We’ll be looking at different building plans, methods and techniques. Working step by step to put it all together, with the finale of building a small shed.
David is great at helping you make sense of what seems complex and delivering the information in a simple, practical way. Don’t miss out on this great weekend course which will give you the confidence you need to build your own structures.
This workshop series is based at Caroola Farm, a permaculture farm in establishment.
Learning outcomes:
Basic carpentry and building skills including:
- Setting our squares
- Building profiles and planning
- Various drilling techniques
- How to make and use different cuts
- The function of beams, rafters and battens
Practical activities:
- Cutting, drilling, nailing
- Building a small shed from scratch
Course Price: $250 for the full weekend course. Be quick for $205 ‘early bird’ price for first 10 students.
Catering: The course will be fully catered with a light lunch, morning and afternoon snacks as well as tea and coffee.
